Provenance and Background Info

An Arper Catifa 46 swivel chair with a 4-star swivel base made in Italy. (We have FOUR chairs available- price listed is for ONE CHAIR only.) This design was done by Lievore Altherr Molina in 2004 for Arper, Italy. Arper chairs are sold alongside big brands coming out of Europe such as B & B Italia, Eames, Poliform, Kartell and Cassina. This design has been a mainstay for almost 20 years- they are still being produced to this day. (In Australia they’re sold by Stylecraft.) There’s a stamp underneath that reads 02 and there’s a circle of numbers from 1 to 12. The arrow is pointing to 10. I’ve always deciphered this as being a date-of-production stamp- in this case October 2002. But they were apparently designed in 2004 so I might be wrong. This base is different to the new variety so perhaps this was an earlier version ? These chairs do have age to them- by looking at them closely I’d say they are about 20 years old. The exact age of this particular set is uncertain.

These have a similar look and style to the Eames aluminium group chairs produced by Herman Miller. The style is more sleek and refined compared to aluminium group chairs though. They have a minimalist look and even as a set of four they’re visually unobtrusive. These chairs are made for commercial situations so the quality is also excellent- new Arper Catifa chairs come with a 7-year Warranty.

These Italian made chairs are bound to be passed from this generation to the next- look at them after about 20 years of use! Investing in items that were built to last is our only way out of this mess and our best way to respect the earth and its resources. There are very few better ways to invest in your home or office and reduce landfill.

SECTION BELOW DOES NOT APPLY!! DOES NOT APPLY! WILL BE UPDATED SOON. These chairs have some age to them- I'd say they are about 20 years old but they present very well overall. The star bases are all in great condition. There is minor aging where the four strands join together in the central buttress. This can't really be seen but is there and is part of the reason why I think the chairs have some age to them. The polypropylene shells have signs of aging but again nothing that's noticed until you really start scrutinising the chairs closely. The polypropylene has aged on the front surface of each chair. These signs of aging are very hard to see and I couldn't really get them to show up in our photos. If you use the Supersize Tool you might be able to just make out the aging. This mainly presents as roughness to the edges and I think the front surfaces are not as shiny as they once were. Perhaps they were used in an under-covered area and exposed to the sun over a period of years ? As the photos show the chairs present very well and there's NO damage, NO noticeable signs of use, NO marks or stains, NO mouldy areas etc. None of the chairs have any structural issues- they are all solid and strong. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Measurements.
