Background Information and Provenance

An Ajka hand-cut, mouth-blown coloured crystal vase made in Hungary. Ajka was started by Bernard Neumann in 1878 and today is one of the biggest glassworks in Central Europe today producing unique, handmade pieces of crystal art. Ajka Crystal is exported for world-famous brands such as Wedgwood, Tiffany’s, Rosenthal, Waterford Crystal, Polo Ralph Lauren, Christian Dior, Moser and other high-end French crystal manufacturers. This piece has been HAND-CRAFTED using techniques passed down through generations in Europe. If you look closely you’ll notice that all the circles with a small circle in the middle are very slightly different in size, shape and placement. These characteristics give the piece its charm and personality.

This is the first Ajka piece I’ve come across in Australia. I love how the circles are concave which creates the fascinating reflections from the other side. The piece is labelled ensuring a solid investment. The retail prices given in the photos at the end of the listing are in US$ so add on at least 25% for Australian $.

With more and more artist jobs being given to machines it’s refreshing to come across this HAND-CRAFTED piece that showcases the traditions and talent of these artists. Investing in HAND-MADE art invests in the stories they tell about our past and future plus by “recycling” art you’re reducing your carbon footprint.
