Background Info and Provenance

This is the first Kosta Boda Zoo Series Rhino I’ve seen for sale in Australia after being in this business for 17 years. I have one in my own collection that I got in 2009- it took me 9 years to come across another to offer my customers. (I got both overseas.) The Zoo series is a favourite of mine and part of the appeal is that some of the animals are a lot rarer than others- the lion (for example) is fairly common but the rhino is amongst the rarest with the exception of the elusive 2-humped camel and tiger.

To be completely accurate- the Zoo series are Boda pieces (not Kosta Boda)- they were made before Kosta and Boda amalgamated in 1976.

Little information is available about these zoo figures- I can’t find anything really except a couple of discussion boards where people say how much they like them. Some dealers say they were designed by Erik Hoglund, others say Bertil Vallien. Most tend to say Vallien who is the most successful of all Kosta Boda’s designers. And Kosta Boda is arguably the most successful glassworks in the world. These creatures are all HAND-MADE from crystal and now over 40 years old.

I can’t see the zoo series losing any value in the future. There’s no chance this HAND-MADE piece will end up as landfill because he’s gone out of style- you’ll be one link in a chain that might go on for centuries. If there comes a time to part with him, this vintage piece should hold the same investment appeal in the future as he does now (but most likely more). There are very few better ways to invest in your home and reduce your carbon footprint.

Other Zoo Series we currently have available for sale. Please note this list is subject to change as we often get enquiries for the zoo creatures-

Small Hippo- approx. 10cm long – $62 (small hippos are quite hard to get)

Large Elephant- 15cm long – $85 (elephants have mid-range rarity- they’re quite hard to get in Australia though- I got this one from overseas- the weight means less of them have come to Australia because of high international postage costs)

Rhino- see this iNVISeDGE listing

Large Lion- see the separate iNVISeDGE listing- (there’s also a ginormous lion as well that’s 26cm in length- it’s too big to be displayed with the others- it looks odd with all the smaller ones)

Smaller Giraffe- 18cm (it’s still much taller than all the larger animals in this series)- $99 (the giraffes are hard to get in Australia but not as ridiculously rare as the tiger and 2-humped camel)

Small lion- 10.5cm long – $58 (the small lion is much harder to get compared to the larger lion)

Other Boda items I have that are in related series (same style as these)-

Boda Unicorn- 15cm long (Fantasy Series I think it’s called)- $78

Boda Afghan Hound- large- 16cm long (there’s a Dog Series called the Kennel Series)- $79

Other Zoo Series in my own collection that are NOT FOR SALE at this point in time-

Small elephant- approx 10cm long

Large Hippo- approx 13cm long (there’s a ginormous hippo as well that’s 23cm in length- it’s too big to be displayed with the others- it looks odd with the smaller ones)

Curly-horned Ibex / Antelope with original foil label (most don’t have the labels on them)- 14cm high

2 humped camel (which is so so soooooooo rare!)

Large Giraffe- 24cm in height

This piece is in great condition for its age with no condition flaws. Measurements. Length- 13cm. Height- 7cm. Weight- approx 220 grams. These are handmade so the weight in particular may vary slightly. The above weight was measured for the first Boda Zoo Rhino we had.
PICK-UP . . . from 30 or 40 minutes North of BRISBANE city is accepted but postage is preferred as my home is hard to find. Because of this I will nominate a friend or family member for you to collect the item from if you need collection. Pick-up in person must be worked out prior to purchase- thank you. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ POSTAGE is offered internationally. All our Decorative Arts pieces are delivered through AUSTRALIA POST. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ POSTAGE ESTIMATES. . . . ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ To BRISBANE- most of our pieces cost $15 - $18 to send. . . To SYDNEY or MELBOURNE- Small Vase- around $20 - $23, Medium Vase- around $20 - $25, Large Vase- around $24 - $30. Let us know if you need an EXACT COST for postage prior to purchase. The above postage estimates include $2.95 for a signature on delivery. . . INSURANCE against being lost or broken in transit up to the value of $200 is included in the estimates above. If your vase is cheaper or more expensive than $200 this will effect your postage fee slightly. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ A BOXING FEE of $3.00 is included in the fee above to cover the cost of searching for and storing used packing materials. With the millions of cardboard boxes that end up as landfill every year we don’t believe in supporting the manufacture of boxes for post. Instead of buying new boxes and packing materials and passing this cost onto our customers we spend considerable time sourcing used boxes and then fashioning boxes to fit each item. We do the same for bubble-wrap and foam pieces. This requires a large investment of time, energy, ingenuity, organization and storage space- it is much easier and cheaper to buy new packing materials but I can’t justify taking the easy way out when so much packing material ends up polluting our earth. Our $3.00 charge does little to pay for the time (and storage) needed do this and to pack your item (there is also the time needed to get your package to the post office). This is something we’re happy to do for our customers and the environment. We appreciate your support in this area.
We accept DIRECT BANK DEPOSIT. We send photographic ID of the store owner (Michael Grealy) to all customers at the point of sale, along with media articles about iNVISeDGE with photos of Michael Grealy in them (most of these articles are about 10 years old). Your payment will be paid into an Australian ANZ bank account under the name Michael Grealy (or iNVISeDGE). Please read our ebay feedback spanning more than 15 years for irrefutable proof of our online trading history and reputation. Ebay feedback can ONLY be left by LEGITIMATE PAYING customers! Additionally please be aware that in Australia ALL consumers are protected BY LAW if the goods or services they buy are not as described. (But this should be of no concern- in our first 15 years of trading we have over 1150 positive ebay feedback comments and ZERO negative feedback comments.) ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ On occasions a DIRECT BANK DEPOSIT can be made at the time of collection. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ On occasions CASH payment when you collect your item may also be available. Confirm prior to purchase if you need this. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Other payment methods are available but problematic and may incur additional fees. Tell us prior to purchase if you are unable to feel 100% confident with our trading history and payment methods so we can negotiate something else with you.
