Provenance and Background Information

A green art-glass bowl designed by Japanese artist Denji Takeuchi in 1963. I’ve seen a couple of these bowls with a Sasaki label (overseas)- Sasaki Crystal is the company Takeuchi worked with for much of his working life. This piece is likely to be crystal- it seems to just draw the light to it. It’s one of the most stunning glass pieces I’ve seen. There’s something captivating about the restrained elegance of it- it’s so sleek and refined you want to just keep looking at it. When I look at this bowl I imagine the ripples that form behind a swimming swan- gentle and flowing – peace and tranquility. There’s something strangely natural about this piece but if you look deeper it’s a highly sophisticated and calculated piece of design. Every angle, every edge, every shape has been designed to create this refined fluidity. The bowl is slanted down towards the tip- also the rim edges are crisp and well-defined- they actually slant upwards on the very edge. The flat surface of the top is actually not flat at all- look closely at the photos- it dips downwards in the middle… I’ve had this piece for several years, reluctant to part with it but it’s time for it to find a new home where it will be loved just as much.

At the time of writing I could only find one Sasaki Crystal ( Denji Takeuchi ) bowl for sale worldwide. It’s listed for 380 EURO which equates to about AU$615 (AUSTRALIAN DOLLARS) but that bowl is the boring circular one. This teardrop one is worth significantly more. It’s an investment piece on a worldwide platform and has been priced to give my customers a great investment and keep coming back to iNVISeDGE for more!

Denji Takeuchi is now a world-famous artist and sculptor- this is one of his earlier works (the person selling the labeled one said it was 1963 and this fits in with his bio). This piece shows why Takeuchi went on to become such an acclaimed creator. I’ve had several of Takeuchi’s pieces over the years and each time I research him I find inspiring pieces of work from high-end auction houses but they rarely give out prices. His work is also included in highly-regarded international galleries and museums- some of his pieces are valued in the tens of thousands.

After much home décor has lost favour and ended up as landfill, this vintage piece will be passed onto yet another owner and then a new generation. There are very few better ways to invest in your home and reduce your carbon footprint.
