The 2 green ones in the first photo sold for $240. The other three in the first photo remain. Around $240 EACH except for the red one which is more expensive. Red is hard to get and that one has Made In Italy embossed to the base. Virtually all of the genie bottles we stock have Made In Italy embossed to the base, making them a great investment.

AU $240 price is for the FOREST GREEN genie bottle with “Wax-Drip” pattern only. That one has since SOLD. Prices of others available (at time of writing)…

  • Olive Green Genie Bottle with wave design. MADE IN ITALY embossed to the base. (Olive Green is also very hard to get compared to ALL the other green colours)- AU $245
  • Bulbous Onion Genie Bottle. (Shapes like this are hard to get.) AU $195
  • Smaller VINTAGE Green Genie Bottle with Aztec Pattern. MADE IN ITALY on base- AU $220

(NOTE- our prices are in AUSTRALIAN dollars– significantly LESS in American dollars. ALSO our prices are never fixed because the value of vintage pieces constantly goes up. (Prices quoted for the 3 decanters in the list above may increase without notice.)

Background Info and Provenance

(Written in 2022. Some information (eg. values) will be time sensitive.)

A vintage green genie bottle made in Italy in the 1960’s. This one is in a RARE deep-forest green colour. Virtually all are in a mid-green colour. It looks amazing in a collection of other vintage genie bottles in different sizes and shades of green.

This particular Empoli decanter is a great investment because it has “Made in Italy” EMBOSSED TO THE BASE (as shown in our photo). Replicas of these bottles have recently been released but the Italy mark (and wax-drip pattern) guarantees this is an AUTHENTIC vintage piece. This piece has very strong investment appeal- values of these have constantly gone up in the last 25 years (and massively too). These genie bottles are mould-blown and have become an icon of the era. This one is particularly striking. The “Wax-drip” pattern and sleek tapered shape offers a contrast to the more-common ones with the diamond (hobnail) texture.

The investment appeal of these is a no-brainer. These are must-haves in an retro-inspired interior. These pieces are now almost 60 years old. As pieces get lost or broken, values can only continue to go up (as there will be less and less around). I’ve seen first-hand how the value of these keep increasing. Before I continue here, remember that values of authentic vintage genie bottles vary considerably depending on the colour. I saw a red one priced at AU $1800 last year (!) I went through my records and sold a red one back in 2011 for AU $400- wish I’d held onto it! I sold a green one back in 2013 for only $95! I’ve not seen an authentic GREEN genie bottle for sale in Australia (the good ones that collectors want) for less than $240 for some time now!

The good ones are getting really hard to get. I came across less than 10 good ones for sale on ebay at the time of writing. Two of the green ones were priced over AU $1000 EACH! One was a staggering AU $1500! (See the screenshots in this listing.) I was shocked! Some ebay sellers obviously have absolutely no idea what they’re doing but this also helps to verify that these vintage pieces are very collectable. These ebay sellers may say that theirs is worth more because it’s frosted … ah sorry, NO green genie bottle is worth over AU $650 (as at 2022). Value is dependent of rarity and the frosted ones can’t be too rare because ebay Australia has 2 frosted green ones for sale at the time of writing. Values of these will continue to climb in the future and will certainly go over AU $1000 each in future years (perhaps in about 20 or 30 years I’d say, certainly not for awhile).

These decanters were inspired by the “I Dream of Jeannie” TV series that ran through the mid-1960’s. They were made in Italy at the time in all sorts of shapes, colours and sizes.

After many of today’s décor items have ended up as landfill, this 50 to 60-year-old piece will be handed onto yet another generation to tell a whole new swarm of stories to. There is no better way I can think of to invest in your home and reduce your carbon footprint. Investing in authentic vintage décor pieces is a smart way to go- within about 5 years these can only continue to increase in value.
