Provenance & Background Information

For the piece shown in every photo- written in 2021

A strong investment piece and great addition to any mid-century glass collection. This VINTAGE piece in the Holmegaard Carnaby style is about 50 years old and been very well made. Done by hand, I love the how the purple colour intensifies in the base and becomes less intense as it gets wider in the hooped sections. The Carnaby series, designed by Per Lütken and Christer Holmgren in 1968, included a range of stunning shapes that had a white (opal) inner casing and a coloured glass casing on the outside. This piece was inspired by these designs and would sit proudly amongst Carnaby pieces. Unfortunately I have no Carnaby pieces at the moment to show this- Carnaby pieces are so hard to get these days (!) Prices have gone through the roof in the last 10 years. They just keep getting more expensive to get and I find myself missing out in auctions on any that I decide I want.

This piece was made BY HAND and is definitely VINTAGE- that’s all I conclusively know about it (and that I love it!). It’s very likely to be European- I’d say it’s Swedish but it could be Japanese though ? The craftsmanship is incredible- these hooped pieces are not easy to make and the white casing adds to the difficulty. Pieces like this are very rare (particularly in Australia where they’re about 50 times rarer than Europe). I got this from a source in the UK- these were never retailed in Australia back in the day.

Many homewares last a few years or even just one season before ending up as landfill- art glass pieces with a inner-white casing have been a design sensation that’s been in vogue for over 5 decades now (written in 2021). Vintage pieces (that have been made well) only become more valued with each changing of hands and the passing of time. There are very few better ways to invest in your home and reduce landfill.
