Description

My vendor is consolidating storage, so he’s motivated to find a new home for this amazing piece (at the moment). Crazy price! This will make an amazing investment. Don’t miss it at this price!

LOCATION- being sold under consignment from Cranbourne, MELBOURNE but can be freighted Australia-wide for a reasonable additional price. It would cost about $340 to get this table to Sydney if there’s help to unload at the delivery end. We are operating as the seller’s agent and will organise every facet of the sale. The listed price includes our commission fee. I travelled to Melbourne and personally worked with this table.

Provenance and Background Info

We’re not sure of the maker of this piece. Schulim Krimper came to mind the second I saw it. My vendor said he thought it was a Schulim Krimper piece before I commented too. I’d be surprised to hear if it wasn’t by Schulim Krimper. It is obviously not marked- Krimper pieces were not usually marked.

This table is SOLID PALISANDER ROSEWOOD. Schulim Krimper pieces were highly coveted in their day and these days even more so. Palisander Rosewood timber has always been highly coveted (and expensive) so it makes sense for this to be by Krimper. Most furniture makers would not have had the customer base to sell something that would be so expensive. I’d say this piece was made in the 1950’s. In the 1970’s, Rosewood started to fall in low supply so many furniture makers made an environmental stand in the 70’s and stopped using it. As a result, vintage pieces in Palisander Rosewood have become highly collectable. Palisander Rosewood pieces are nearly always veneer. In fact, I can’t remember ever seeing a table made from SOLID Palisander Rosewood. Solid Rosewood increases the value exponentially. You will be able to refinish this table as many times as you want, making it a lifetime investment. I can’t see any reason why this table won’t last forever.

The other thing going for it is that the extension panel is basically the same tone as the rest of the table. This is also very rare. This table looks amazing extended or not. I love the figuring in the timber- this is nature at its most beautiful. The varying tones also mean that chairs of virtually any tone will work well.

Schulim Krimper (1893-1971) trained in Vienna fled Europe during WW2 and became Melbourne’s foremost bespoke furniture maker from 1940 to 1960. The standard of craftsmanship, attention to detail and callibre of his designs were instantly recognised- his work quickly adorned some of Melbourne’s most exclusive homes. Schulim Krimper is widely regarded as a master of modern Australian furniture. I’ve seen Schulim Krimper cabinets raise up to AU $30,000 in auction. He worked outside of mass production, creating one-off pieces that were both functional and beautiful.

This custom-made table, most likely crafted by Schulim Krimper, is in brilliant condition. It’s very solidly constructed with no damage or movement to the structure of the piece. It shows superior construction techniques and is structurally solid. It has NO breaks, NO repairs, NO cracks- it is very sturdy and strong. The butterfly extension works well. This table is about 60 - 70 years old and has been extremely well looked after. It has nothing that would constitute as damage- there may be a few very minor signs of use but looks great overall. The finish to the timber is resilient and strong. _________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ The table-top has NO STAINS, NO NOTICEABLE RING MARKS, NO BREAKS IN THE TIMBER, NO HEAT MARKS, NO LIQUID MARKS etc. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Measurements. The table measures 180cm with a height of 76cm. Width is 96cm. It extends to 225cm in length.
