Provenance and Background Info

This table was sold through iNVISeDGE for $420 in 2005. Today in 2019 I’d value the same table at about $700 in iNVISeDGE- based on its rarity. These very rarely come up for sale.

Back in 2005 I had no idea who made this piece- there was not much information about Australian furniture design online in 2005. (I just knew I liked it!) Today in 2019 things have changed and the wealth of information about Australian furniture design is growing. I’ve since seen one of these tables definitively identified as being done by TH Brown & Sons. It had the THB metal badge underneath from the 1960’s. I just hope this influx of interest online in Australian furniture-making in its heyday inspires a new generation of makers to do things that rival what’s being done elsewhere in the world. Our furniture work from the 1950’s and 1960’s was up amongst the best in the world but these days furniture making in Australia is virtually non-existent. I’m looking forward to seeing a band of new furniture makers in Australia emerge and push furniture making into new exciting realms.

SELLING IN iNVISeDGE

If you have a similar item to sell, I’d be very happy to list an item of this callibre online in iNVISeDGE (and sell it for around $675-$770). FOR A DEALER, OUR COMMISSION FEE FOR SOMETHING LIKE THIS WOULD BE AROUND 10%. (It depends on how much work is required for your listings and organising the sale.) We’d need about 10-12 photos from all angles- your photos would have to be at least as good as those shown in this listing. If you don’t have a shop and you deal in second-hand furniture design, we’d also stock an item like this online in iNVISeDGE, we’d find an online buyer for you and take control of the sales process on your behalf- in this case our commission fee would be 10% – 18.5%. Again we’d need about 10-12 good photos from various angles- at least as good as those shown in this listing. Also if you were the buyer of this exact piece and would like to sell it now, we’d be happy to represent it again on your behalf and you’d make a very tidy profit from selling the piece now (!) even after our commission fee is deducted.

This is a piece to be handed through the generations. After most modern furniture has ended up as landfill, this table will still be doing exactly was it was designed to do. Investing in vintage furniture is a great way to go- if an item looks like this after 6 decades of use you’re assured of the quality you’re getting and that it will continue to hold it’s value (or even increase in value) in the future.
