TH Brown and Sons has just re-released this design and it’s priced at around $3,000 NEW! Our VINTAGE suite is a fraction of this. There’s no reason why an authentic vintage suite shouldn’t fetch the same as the new ones making this a really astute investment for any home!

THIS SUITE IS BEING SOLD UNDER CONSIGNMENT BY A REGULAR iNVISeDGE SELLER IN ADELAIDE. I travelled to Adelaide to work with several furniture lots from this seller. Freight Australia-wide can be organised. It’d cost about $200 to get this suite to Melbourne.

Background Info and Provenance

This exceptional coffee table and nesting stool suite by T.H. Brown & Sons represents the absolute pinnacle of mid-century Australian design innovation. Originally produced in Adelaide during the 1960’s and 1970’s, this clever space-saving set features three beautifully contoured stools that glide effortlessly beneath the circular table frame. Affectionately known historically as a “fondue suite,” the design has achieved such legendary status that T.H. Brown & Sons has recently relaunched it under its official name- the Rondo Suite. With the modern, re-released settings retailing for around $3,000, investing in an authentic vintage production offers an unparalleled opportunity to own a slice of genuine Australian design history that continues to appreciate in value.

 

While most of these vintage suites are found with traditional black vinyl, this particular example features an incredibly rare and unusual camel-coloured vinyl. This unique tone gives the entire suite a much fresher, lighter, and more contemporary appearance, allowing the rich timber frame to truly pop. This iconic configuration instantly conjures nostalgic images of retro social gatherings, capturing an era when friends gathered in the lounge room to connect and celebrate. It remains a brilliant, sculptural solution for modern apartment living, delivering immense character without compromising on valuable floor space. This TH Brown and Sons suite is VINTAGE but presents incredibly well. The table retains the S1 Furniture Standards label used in the 1960's which verifies that this is an authentic vintage production. I'd say the footstools have been recently reupholstered by a professional. This camel-colour is very popular right now but wasn't in trend when this suite was produced. The upholstery also looks new so I can't see how it could possibly be vintage. I'd say the re-upholstery would have cost about $900. (And I've seen the tables without the stools sell for $800.) There are no condition issues that warrant a mention. The glass top also looks like a newer replacement. The smoked glass may have looked heavy with these fresher tones so I prefer the clear glass with this. It's close to new but expect some minor scratches. There was nothing that I noticed and nothing that warranted trying to get photographs of. The suite has been extremely well looked after and is ready to be used and appreciated in it's next home. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ This suite hasn't be measured yet. With the previous one we had, the height of the table measured 41cm. The GLASS-TOP diameter of the last one we had was 95cm. The glass tops can vary as many were replaced over the years.
