Provenance and Background Info

A fantastic sideboard designed and made in Australia by COCO REPUBLIC about 10 years ago. The QUALITY of this sideboard is exceptional. This is SOLID teak- no shitty Parker Weetbix veneer here! This piece can be refinished as may times as you want- I don’t see any reason why it won’t last forever. It’s easily one of the best sideboards iNVISeDGE has ever had. Solid timber sideboards are the much smarter option and much harder to find! Despite what others may say, about 97% of sideboards are CHIPBOARD VENEER. There are even dealers in this business who proudly state they are selling a solid timber sideboard when they are not … be careful! After about 24 years in this business, we’ve had less than a handful of sideboards that were solid timber.

The retail price-ticket of this Coco Republic cabinet was $4,000 new. This sideboard has NOT been flat-packed and sent from China in the thousands- it was MADE IN AUSTRALIA (by Coco Republic) and will be a statement in your home that’s all your own- I doubt it could have been made in China for this price (and that doesn’t include the cost of freight to get a piece like this into Australia from China).

I love the simplicity of this design. The design is minimalist and understated- the slatted front gives it a subtle point of interest. This design feature is costly to construct (which is why you don’t see it much anymore). The other advantage of this design is that it allows airflow- electrical equipment housed in this cabinet will stay cool and if you store linen or tea towels in it, they won’t get mouldy or smelly. My linen closet at home (in a 1970’s apartment has these doors on it- I LOVE them.) After living with it I decided to spray-paint the mission-brown from the 70’s, white. I’m so glad I did- the doors look amazing and my linen is better for it (because of the constant airflow).

If you choose second-hand furniture well it will reward you financially over time (ALL of the pieces iNVISeDGE has sold in the past have INCREASED in value (usually in line with inflation but some designs we’ve had have enjoyed sudden new favour and a rapid spike in value- some of the pieces iNVISeDGE has sold in the past have tripled and quadrupled in value- sometimes even more, in a matter of years.) The real beauty of owning second-hand furniture though is knowing that by valuing the QUALITY pieces we already have, you’re helping in a small way to discourage the production of cheap, poorly-made items that are designed to end up as landfill within years. Buying quality furniture is not only a financial investment but an investment into the future of our planet.

This Coco Republic cabinet / sideboard is about 10 years old and boasts the very-best construction qualities. I can’t remember when I've had a sideboard with such SUPERIOR construction. All surfaces present brilliantly too. There are NO noticeable scratches, gouges, marks or bumps at all. All edges are in excellent condition with no noticeable bumps, scratches, scrapes or damage- I searched closely and found nothing. This piece has some VERY feint scratches to the top if you want to scrutinise the top very closely. Any minor signs of use to the top are not noticed. You have to get on the right angle to notice them and even then, they are very hard to spot. These are pedantic comments for the nit-picker- any normal person would not except a second-hand item to be completely brand-new. This one looks close to new (unless you want to nit-pick. Nothing really warrants a mention. Use our Supersize feature. For each image, click on the Magnifying Glass. Then when the image is enlarged, click on the image again to Supersize it! Then scroll over the entire surface. All signs of use can be spotted if you employ the Supersize tool. The felt in the drawers needs a vacuum- I don't have a vacuum at my storage in Lidcombe so couldn't do this for you. ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ This piece is solid timber so it's VERY sturdy- structurally it will last forever. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ This cabinet measures 180cm X 55cm with a height of 80.5cm.
