Description

Listed price= $665 PER stool. We strongly prefer these to be sold as a set of 5. We’d entertain strong offers to break up this suite but will only sell if someone wants 3 stools and someone else wants a pair AT THE SAME TIME. Even if you want only 3 or 4, it’d be stupid not to invest in all 5. Sets of 5 of these are near impossible to get, making this a very strong investment with exceptional re-sale value. ALL 5 of these bar stools are the SAME HEIGHT (or extremely close to being the same – see the photos- there may be a variation of about 1cm – this could just be the angle of the camera though ? I didn’t notice anything when I was photographing them.) The tops are all original. This set was collected as 3 lots- 2 pairs and then the fifth was purchased separately. This suite represents YEARS of collecting- I’ve never seen 5 before!

LOCATION- Mt Eliza (near Frankston), MELBOURNE. I personally took these photos and inspected each stool carefully. These can be freighted Australia-wide by a specialist furniture carrier. Approx. $330 to get all these stools to Sydney. Approx. $110 to most areas of Melbourne.

Background Info and Provenance

(This description was written in 2023 but updated for this set in 2026. Some information may be time-sensitive eg. values.)

A stunning set of 5 barstools / bar stools designed by Gerald Easden for Module Furniture, Melbourne in the 1960’s – the frames are all solid TEAK. A pair have been finished in black lacquer- I really like the black ones. Very chic and refined- I like the shine as well because it accentuates the sculptural elegance. I also like them as they are- the tops look good as a set. I really like the authentic vintage appearance- the timber could benefit from a tidy up but I like the tops as they are. I’ve not seen a set of 5 of these in a matching height for many years (if ever). These are the second Gerald Easden bar stools we’ve ever had (after 24 years of trading). They are definitely one of the most beautiful bar-stool designs to ever come out of Australia. TH Brown & Sons stools are probably the only Australian design that may trump these in some people’s eyes- I like this design even more than TH Brown stools though. This design is very architectural and minimalist- I think barstools look much better without a back too. (The backs on TH Brown stools are purely decorative- they are so low that the backs could never be used in a practical sense.)

A glance at these makes it obvious this is not a straight-forward design. There’s an extraordinary amount of work involved. The sculptural elegance is something to be experienced to be believed. The internal edges are all slanted to provide a sleekness that doesn’t compare to anything similar. The frames are more complex and sculptural than they may first appear- sleek, stylish and elegant but very solid and strong due to the exceptional workmanship in each corner (and the metal cross-supports). The exceptional nature of the joint areas can’t be seen but make no mistake, these are well built chairs. I’ve never seen or heard of anything wrong with a Module bar stool after being in this business for 25 years.

I doubt we’ll ever get a set of 5 again.  It’s not easy to create curves in solid timber, so designs of this standard are rarely seen these days. If this design was made today to this exact standard, the price would be around this even if the chairs were made in China (where they usually cut corners to ensure your item ends up as landfill quicker). If the Module furniture factory fired up again in Australia and made these Gerald Easden stools again to this exact standard, you’d be paying at least $1,000 PER STOOL. The investment appeal on offer here is a no-brainer.

These Gerald Easden / Easeden bar stools by Module Furniture of Melbourne are comfortable, SUPER-STYLISH and incredibly durable. Several retain the original S1 AUSTRALIAN FURNITURE STANDARDS label under the seats. These labels were used on quality Australian-made furniture in the late-1960’s and 1970’s so they guarantee the durability, QUALITY and provenance of what’s on offer here. But the proof is in the pudding- look at these bar stools after about 55 years of use- no real condition issues to disclose at all. To say they’ve been built to last a generation is a lie- they’ve already lasted several generations and are ready to be passed to the next one. I have no doubt they will be loved for another 55 years (or more).

In my opinion, the only way the value of these stools can go is upwards! (Like every other iNVISeDGE item we’ve sold over the last 24 years.) Add investment appeal to the list of advantages on here.

Why buy a set of modern stools that will lose value by about HALF the second you walk them out of the shop? Here, you are being offered stools constructed IN AUSTRALIA about 55 years ago that should only increase in value in the future. Plus, by supporting iNVISeDGE, you’re supporting a business that’s been meeting the challenge of running a small business in Australia for about 24 years. It’s a win for everybody. I can’t think of any better way to invest in your home and reduce landfill. (EVERY SINGLE item in my home is vintage or was purchased second-hand- except a couple of my electrical appliances- and every item has increased in value whilst I’ve enjoyed using it in my home.

This set of 5 bar stools by Gerald Easden are ALL in excellent condition. None have any structural damage- they are ALL sturdy pieces that have been incredibly well-built. There are NO cracks in the timber, NO breaks, NO loose joints, NO wobbles, NO creaks or groans, NO repairs. These are vintage pieces (about 55 years old) and in AS FOUND condition, so they all show minor signs of use, however they look great as a set. The timber is beautiful- some of these stools would benefit from a sand and application of oil. The tops are presentable as a set. They could be easily re-upholstered as the tops unscrew very easily but also look good as they are. Some wear to the fabric ones and a couple of split seams to the vinyl tops but nothing unsightly. _________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Measurements.
