Most furniture is designed to be pushed against a wall. The Zeitraum Friday Lounge Suite, however, demands to be placed directly in the centre of the room.
Designed by Munich’s Formstelle for the eco-luxury German maker Zeitraum, this immaculate three-piece suite- consisting of a compact 2-to-3-seater sofa and a matching pair of single-seater armchairs- redefines the relationship between timber, leather, and fabric. Unlike sprawling, oversized lounges that overwhelm a space, this suite is intentionally master-scaled. It is the ultimate answer for architectural urban spaces, a luxury master bedroom retreat, or an executive home office where premium design needs to fit a precise, sophisticated footprint.
The genius of the Friday suite lies mainly in its back. Formstelle engineered a heavy, precision-pattern-cut butt leather panel that wraps seamlessly around a solid, oiled European Oak frame. It doesn’t just hold the stone grey cushions; it hugs them like a perfectly tailored, bespoke winter coat. A quirky testament to its incredible engineering: “butt leather” (or core leather) isn’t just a cheeky name—it refers to the thickest, strongest, and most unyielding part of the hide, traditionally reserved for heavy-duty boot soles and industrial belts. Yet here, it is elevated into high-end, structural art.
Sitting in it feels like a structured embrace; you immediately melt into the soft, down-filled stone grey cushions, yet you feel entirely supported by the leather spine. The internal seat structure hides a heavy-duty, high-performance pocket-spring core, giving you the immediate, sinking comfort of any comfortable lounge, but with the architectural, sag-free longevity of a premium mattress.
Passing through our hands at iNVISeDGE, this solid-oak suite has been incredibly well looked after and offers a rare opportunity to save many thousands and bypass the lengthy European production wait times. It is a masterclass in modern Nordic-German design, proving that true luxury isn’t about maximum volume, but maximum presence.
RRP of these varies. The cheapest single-seater lounge chairs I found online were out of Europe for $6,836 EACH plus shipping into Australia on top. I found a price for the 2.5-seater sofa, also in Europe, for 7,039 GBP which equates to roughly AUD $13,400. The full retail value for what’s on offer would be around AUD $25,000- our suite is in immaculate condition, making this price a no-brainer investment.
After many modern sofas have ended up as landfill this high-quality suite featuring top-of-the-range German engineering and construction will be passed onto yet another owner and then another generation. There’s no better way to invest in your home and reduce landfill. Investing in furniture (or anything) that’s been built to last is our only way out of this mess.
