Description
LOCATION- being sold by a regular iNVISeDGE seller in Mont Albert North, MELBOURNE. I travelled to Melbourne to work with this furniture and about 8 other consignment items. Delivery Australia-wide is possible. I’d say it’d cost about $280 to get this sofa up to Sydney.
This Danish Deluxe sofa MADE IN AUSTRALIA is OFFERS OVER- $2,250.
This vendor is a professional upholsterer who later expertly covered the straps on the back. She did an amazing job. I have added a few photos to the listing that she took to show how the sofa looked before it went out. The sofa in these photos has sold but she (and another regular seller who’s also an upholsterer) has another Inga day/night sofa in storage. The sofa in these photos sold for MORE than our OFFERS OVER price. If you have interest in other Inga pieces we have available to iNVISeDGE, get in contact with us using the phone number in the CONTACT section.
Description and Provenance
Now Available: 1960s Danish Deluxe Day/Night Lounge Sofa
Step into the world of mid-century elegance with this restored 1960s Danish Deluxe Day/Night Lounge Sofa, a rare gem that combines iconic Australian design with the refined aesthetic of Danish furniture.
Here’s why this sofa is the perfect addition to your home:
- Sleek and Timeless Design: With its aerodynamic silhouette and graceful lines, this sofa exudes understated elegance, surpassing other designs of its era. Its clean, minimalist form is a testament to the brilliance of Danish Deluxe- it will become a focal point in any living space.
- Unmatched Durability: Built to last, this sofa features a robust steel sub-structure reinforcing ALL joint areas, rendering it virtually indestructible! Ideal for homes with young children or for Airbnb hosts seeking furniture that will withstand the test of time.
- Pinnacle of Practicality: The removable, washable covers make maintenance a breeze- simply return the covers to the cushions while slightly damp to prevent shrinkage. Re-upholstering is equally effortless, ensuring this piece will evolve over generations with whatever the new trend may be!
- Meticulously Restored: This sofa has been lovingly brought back to its former glory. The timber-frame gleams with a fresh finish, and the new, high-quality textile upholstery complements the design. Thoughtfully chosen straps blend seamlessly, avoiding the jarring blue or green colour often seen in other ( TERRIBLE ! ) restorations. Brand-new springs installed by this vendor provide exceptional support for lasting comfort. Please NOTE- the straps were later covered by this vendor. She is a professional upholsterer and did an amazing job with covering the straps in the back
- Versatile Day-to-Night Functionality: Effortlessly convert this lounge into a comfortable bed for guests, offering unparalleled practicality without compromising on style. Its carefully-designed angles ensure optimal sitting comfort.
- A Smart Investment: Danish Deluxe pieces (made in Australia in the 1950’s and 60’s) are highly sought-after, and this Inga sofa is no exception. Its timeless appeal and robust construction ensure it will hold or increase in value, making it a rare find compared to modern alternatives (and Parker pieces) that lack the charm of this and its functionality.
- Perfect Proportions: Generously-sized, yet perfectly balanced, this sofa will fit seamlessly into any space, from cozy apartments to spacious living rooms.
Don’t miss the chance to own a piece of Australian design history that’s as functional as it is beautiful. Whether you’re a collector, a design enthusiast, or simply seeking a statement piece that delivers on every front, this Danish Deluxe Day/Night Lounge Sofa is your opportunity to elevate your home with an iconic piece of iconic Australian furniture design!

This day/night sofa is in brilliant condition for its age. The timber frame is solid and sturdy with NO movement in any joint, NO wobbles, NO structural issues, NO repairs, at all. I’ve carefully inspected this piece all over (and have had 24-years experience doing this). This is one of the older ones of these sofas- this is far superior to later models. The underside has a solid steel substructure that underpins the base and supports all joint areas. The underside is heavy and robust. This addition was removed from later models when they learnt they could save money by not doing this! This sofa will easily stand up to another 60 years of use if used with only a little bit of sense. This piece has been extremely well looked-after. The folding mechanism is original and works easily and well. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
The frame is in excellent condition overall cosmetically. The timber presents incredibly well for a piece of this era as all surfaces have just been refinished. The base is springy and provides brilliant support. The inner-springs used here are the superior base configuration. They outlast normal webbing which sags over time and needs to be replaced. These springs were nearing 70-years-old so this vendor replaced the springs- a cheap and relatively-easy job (if you buy some wire-cutters from the hardware store). The cushioning is in excellent condition. It is the perfect density for this furniture. The upholstery is new- this vendor has just reupholstered the piece. This textile fabric is a high-quality choice with a predominantly grey colour palette. The straps have been specifically sourced for this sofa and were carefully chosen- I often see these sofas with the standard bright-green or blue straps. These black straps fall in shadow and look brilliant on this piece. If you want to have the sofa on display, you may like to have the straps covered. My upholsterer can do a professional job of this- she's worked out how best to do it. The cost of doing this, is an additional $200 (optional). It's not needed- this is how these Danish Deluxe sofas were made back in the day (about 60 - 70 years ago)- it's a cosmetic thing and depends on your taste. These straps look good which is why we've left it up to the buyer to decide whether or not they want them covered.
