ABOUT THIS PARTICULAR SET
This is the “Mauritius” design, designed to be used in cafes. It’s COMMERCIAL GRADE seating- built to withstand basically anything anyone can throw at them. Even with solid use, these chairs are built to last forever (not just one or two generations)- look at the steel sub-structure- this sort of quality is something I’ve never seen before (after 23 years in this business). There’s no timber joints- if you look at the underside, you’ll see that they are virtually IMPOSSIBLE to break. This takes sustainability to a whole new level. You can easily pay more than our listed price for “standard” dining chairs but this sort of quality and durability is unseen in today’s world. This particular suite has had solid use by a busy family for 8 YEARS- but just look at them! A few very minor signs of use (which I think just adds to the appeal and character). Despite use, they all present incredibly well- it just showcases the quality you’re buying here. I really love the aesthetic of these chairs as well. They have a fascinating resort-style but with a sleek, refined quality. This design takes cues from vintage Danish furniture. There’s a real elegance at play here but with an interesting tribal twist. I love the sculptural quality, the tapered legs and the quality of this leather. This is A-GRADE leather that’s designed to develop patina over time. I love the creasing that’s evolved over the past 8 years. They look loved and used but there’s no damage- a symbol that even though this is expensive, luxury furniture it has been designed to be used and loved- there’s no need to pander to this furniture- it’s as practical as it is beautiful. And at our price, less than ONE THIRD retail, you’ll be getting a really astute investment too. The other big plus here is that there’s a matching SET OF 8- we rarely get sets of 8 dining chairs but 8 is the most sought-after by our customers.

The “Mauritius” chair is a joy to behold. The craftsmanship- DONE BY HAND- is an absolute joy. The COMFORT is a joy- they’re padded and extremely comfortable. I don’t understand cafes that have the most uncomfortable chairs you can get- don’t you want your patrons to stay longer and spend more money? Don’t you (as a buyer for your home) want dining chairs that your guests actually want to sit in, where the wine and conversation will flow longer? You not only get all that with these chairs but you also get investment appeal too. If you look after these chairs I can’t see them losing any value in the future- you just can’t readily buy chairs of this quality these days (and that’s the problem with this world at the moment- just chuck in ’em landfill- in the ocean- she’ll be right mate- use them up- trash them- then get rid of them so you never have to think about them again! …)
More information about Pacific Green (if you’ve read this far … keep reading about this fabulous AUSTRALIAN business!)
Pacific Green is one of the most inspiring brands in the world. It’s an Australian brand with humble beginnings starting back in the early-1970’s (as Post & Rail Furniture). Today in 2024, over 50 years on, Pacific Green is one of the most coveted furniture brands not only in Australia but the world. Pacific Green Furniture items in the USA can sell for DOUBLE what they sell for here. I’ve been dealing in pre-loved furniture for 23 years now- it takes a lot for anything to stand out to me these days but Pacific Green without a doubt is exceptional in every regard. I specialise in finding items found in Australia- I don’t go overseas and fill up containers to bring here. We have so much inspiring stuff here in Australia there’s no need to. In my years in this business I believe Pacific Green is the best furniture brand to ever come out of Australia. Tessa and FLER come close (but Tessa/FLER items tended to mimic what was done overseas at the time). Pacific Green does its own thing- their designs are distinctive, interesting, earthy, creative and certainly have “wow factor”. But stunning design is a small part of the appeal. The quality is exceptional. The CRAFTSMANSHIP BY HAND is exceptional. The ethos of Pacific Green is exceptional.
Pacific Green Furniture uses coconut timber for the manufacture of all their furniture. Coconut wood is a SOLID HARDWOOD- more resilient than virtually any timber- it thrives in areas battered by tropical cyclones. Pacific Green use abandoned plantations of coconut palm trees in the South Pacific that were commercially planted in the early-1900s but reached the end of productive fruiting. Instead of going to waste, Pacific Green uses this valuable SUSTAINABLE resource.
But the best part in my eyes is that Pacific Green set a benchmark for modern, sustainable business for other businesses to follow. In the late-1980’s land was leased, not bought, to respect indigenous ownership. Their initial factory was built in consultation with surrounding villages and employed only local people. Business and skills training programmes were established. The initial factory is OWNED BY FIJIANS- the drive of the business is still Australian- the designing arm happens here in Australia.
I am inspired and heartened that a small Australian business changed tack the way they did back in the late-1980’s when ecological threats and socially-conscious business was barely thought of.
I love scouting to find exciting furniture. Furniture like this is the reason I do this job. Pacific Green ignites inspiration- PG ticks every box and proves that businesses can be successful, ecologically responsible and socially-aware. Pacific Green Furniture has been built to last and will continue to tell stories well after you and I are gone- just like Post & Rail furniture already has. Pacific Green Furniture will be the antiques of tomorrow. There’s no better way to invest in your home and reduce landfill.
