PLEASE NOTE- The Guidelines given in this listing are exactly that – GUIDELINES! The purpose of this information is to help guide you. Do the best you can with what you have. You may not be able to follow these guidelines. That’s fine- but without any guidelines you have no idea the direction you’re heading!

The suite shown in the above photos sold to someone who had 99% committed to it BEFORE I even did these photos. The reason I spent hours doing a photoshoot? He 100% committed to the suite within 2 minutes of seeing these photos AND gave me a record price at the time for this suite! ($750 more than I’d ever got before for anything similar at the time.)

The price we can get for any iNVISeDGE item is dependent to an extent on the quality of the photos. I have tried selling items for sellers who have spent about 10 minutes taking photos. In short it always becomes a shit-show! I end up spending hours on the phone with many potential buyers but it takes a long time for anyone to commit.

TAKE THE TIME, HAVE SOME PATIENCE. If iNVISeDGE accepts your item, the difference can sometimes mean THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS and nearly always a FASTER SALE. I no longer have the time or inkling to attempt to sell items that have not been photographed well.

Good photos also opens up our ability to sell your item to buyers AUSTRALIA-WIDE. (iNVISeDGE will organise specialised furniture freight Australia-wide <and in some cases world-wide>. The BUYER pays all freight costs.)

Peruse Photoshoots in our NEWLY LISTED Category for ideas. If you want us to find an iNVISeDGE listing we’d like you to use as a guide for your photos, SMS the phone number in our contact page).

Do what you can to get a plain background with good lighting (more on that below)- that is usually the biggest photographic hurdle. A “messy” white background (eg. using a stretched white bed sheet/s) could be a starting point to help us Photoshop images later to get a plain white background. (A plain white background is not essential but desirable. If your listing looks like any other iNVISeDGE listing, a customer will pay us a normal iNVISeDGE price.)

Use the Photographic Tips below and most importantly have fun with it! (This shouldn’t feel like a chore.)

ALL PHOTOS MUST BE IN LANDSCAPE ORIENTATION.

The “first display photo” is important (the photo that makes people click into your item in the first place). Good photos from you also mean that viewings will be highly unlikely- this will save you a LOT of time and stress/annoyance in the long run. Bad photos communicate immediately to buyers I’ve had less of a hand in your listing- cautious buyers will steer clear of it!

POINTERS on how to take photos to assist your sale and help make the sale process as EASY AND PROFITABLE as possible.

RESOLUTION

*** Set your device to GOOD PHOTO RESOLUTION (preferably about 1.3 MB for each image)- this allows prospective buyers the opportunity to clearly see what you’re selling (and properly use the Magnifying Tool on our website)

*** A resolution can also be “too good. (Photos of 5MB and more will take too long to download and customers will just give up or call me to say the listing keeps getting “stuck”).

*** Please EMAIL us your final photos using the email address Michael provides to you (the hotmail one). Narrow down your selection as best you can)- you can take them on your phone if your phone camera is good but it’s still best to get photos by email. For a larger number of photos, you will need to send us 3 or 4 separate emails. (Or use a free file transfer website such as WeTransfer.)

*** Take ALL photos in LANDSCAPE orientation. (If you don’t know what that means Google, “Landscape versus Portrait photo orientation”)

LIGHTING is such a crucial factor.

*** Do NOT take photos of items in full-sun

*** Shady areas outside or very well-lit areas inside are the best for photographing items to sell. (Lights may be turned on inside but good natural light inside is much more important, where the light is coming in from BEHIND YOU (item not in direct sun / never at night). Strong inside lights may also reflect off the surfaces and drown out details (customers will not be able to see the condition of surfaces such as timber or leather). Sometimes strong inside lights make your photographic result worse than if you hadn’t turned them on.

BACKGROUND

*** Photos taken in front of a light-coloured GARAGE DOOR are perfect (particularly on concrete- plain and light coloured). In front of an outside wall may also be good (if the wall is a light colour). You may need to stretch a white sheet on the ground.

*** A PLAIN BACKGROUND is best with little that will detract attention from your item

*** We can eliminate SOME clutter from the background using photo-editing tools if needed particularly if it’s on the sides or above the item however if clutter interferes with the actual item this may be impossible.

*** Photos taken outside in front of a light-coloured garage door are nearly always preferable for larger items or larger groups of chairs- it gives you more space to work

*** A light-coloured paling fence if it’s not the same colour as what you’re selling can also be good however any light background will mean your photos will look better (unless your item is white)

*** If taking photos inside, you may need help from someone to move some furniture out of the way temporarily

*** For inside- white walls are good- most plain floors are usually good if they’re not the same colour as your item

ANGLES

*** Angles that show your item in a way that gives it wow-factor always help- DON’T take most of your photos front on!

*** Always go to our website – www.invisedge.com.au/product-category/newly-listed/ and look through similar items we’ve sold in the past for ideas of photos before you start. Two people doing your photos often helps- one to navigate the camera; the other to look at an iNVISeDGE listing and tell the other person what angles / photos to do.

When we accept your item, it is nearly always the difference of a lot of money (sometimes thousands) compared to if you put it on Gumtree or Facebook Marketplace (where you’ll only attract someone who wants something for nothing!)

CONDITION OF YOUR ITEM IS AS IMPORTANT AS LIGHTING

*** We MUST see any condition faults in your selection of photos. Potential buyers may use condition as a way to try low-ball offers but we can disarm them if we’re upfront about the condition. Vintage items always have general signs of use- these are less important to show, we will always tell customers to expect minor signs of use. HOWEVER, anything that stands out (careless signs of use and damage) must be shown clearly. (Show cracks that go into the leather. If there are too many cracks into the leather, we will only advertise your item in our BUDGET BUYS Category. Creases in leather are completely fine.)

*** Check to see there are no cracks or movement in joint areas and that STRUCTURALLY your item is still perfectly solid and sturdy (IF IT’S NOT WE NEED TO KNOW NOW!)

VIEWINGS

Virtually all iNVISeDGE items sell with NO viewings prior to sale if the item is photographed properly. Michael has been doing this for over 20 years- he has many strategies to eliminate needless viewings if your photos are good. He asks strategic questions from potential buyers before any viewing is granted. (Viewings for iNVISeDGE items are granted- NEVER just given!)
