Provenance and Background Info
(This Summertone cabinet sold through iNVISeDGE in 2005 for $795. I have not come across another Summertone cabinet to stock since 2005 therefore I’d price the exact same piece in iNVISeDGE at around $1295 today.)
Unfortunately I can’t find the description I wrote for this cabinet back in 2005. This piece was produced in the 1950’s by Summertone Furniture of Melbourne. It shows QUALITY craftsmanship and a cool 50’s style. It has NO chipboard in it at all so will last generations. Summertone was sold in stores alongside furniture by the likes of Grant Featherston, Douglas Snelling and Clement Meadmore. Summertone is lesser known these days only because their items are so rare. I have never come across another cabinet like this in 18 years of trading. This iNVISeDGE customer got a very solid investment and would make a tidy profit if they wanted to sell the piece today, even with my commission fee deducted- but why would you? It has a unique style and is a great size- it takes up little floor space, is not imposing at all and provides plenty of handy storage. Summertone furniture re-branded to become Moderntone in the 1960’s.
Items like this are a great financial investment BUT an equally as smart environmental investment. In this throwaway society, some items make us stop and see more. Investing in items like this not only reduces landfill but also our carbon footprint. Why buy any other way?
